This article applies to PRTG Network Monitor 14.4.12 or later

I want to define a different drive letter or another folder / path for my PRTG installation. How can I do this?

How to Define a Different Drive or Data Directory for PRTG Installations

PRTG Network Monitor is a network monitoring software that stores its data in a centralized manner, allocating a data directory for the storage of configuration, log and dataset files. By default the program will store data on the C: drive. This article explains how to move an installation of PRTG Network Monitor from one drive to another, if necessary, for example if the server in case is running out of disk space on drive C:

Note: The Windows ProgramData folder is hidden by default. To show it, open the Windows Explorer, open the View tab, and select Hidden items (on Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012, works similar on other Windows versions).

Changing the Storage Drive or Directory

Please follow these step when using PRTG version 14.4.12 or later:

  1. Open the PRTG Administration Tool.
  2. Choose the Service Start/Stop tab.
  3. Click on Stop Core Server.
  4. Click on Stop Probe Service.
  5. Find the data folders:
    1. Select the Core Server tab and find the setting Local Storage of Data Files and Monitoring Database. You will need to copy the configuration and dataset files from this directory.
    2. Select the tab Probe Settings for Core Connection and find the setting Path for probe data storage. You will need to copy the dataset files from this directory.
  6. Copy all files to the desired new drive or data directory.
  7. Enter the new path into the administrator tool:
    1. Choose the Core Server tab and change the Local Storage of Data Files and Monitoring Database setting to the new path.
    2. Choose the tab Probe Settings for Core Connection and change the Path for probe data storage setting to the new path.
  8. Restart the core and probe services on the Service Start/Stop tab.

Note: On systems with remote probes only, leave out the steps for the core server and only follow the respective instructions for the probe.

PRTG Network Monitor will now load and store data on the newly defined drive, respectively within the newly defined data directory.
