Why do my Hyper-V sensors show an error message after renaming my virtual machine, network card, or disk resource name?
Hyper-V sensors and changing names
We recommend that you do not rename virtual machines once you have set up monitoring. If you have renamed a Hyper-V virtual machine, network card, or resource name, please perform the following steps to be able to monitor it again.
Note: Previously collected historic data will not be available in the new sensor's tables and graphs.
- Restart your Hyper-V host server.
- In PRTG, add the respective sensors again:
- Hyper-V Virtual Machine
- Hyper-V Virtual Network Adapter
- Hyper-V Virtual Storage Device
- Hyper-V Cluster Shared Volume Disk Free
Note: You cannot monitor virtual machines if their names contain unsupported characters, for example, a number sign (#). In general, UTF-8 characters are supported.
