Why is the map background missing in my PRTG Geo Maps, even though monitoring objects like devices and groups with defined locations show up with their icons? What steps can I take to ensure the geographical maps are displayed correctly?
Correctly displaying geographical maps with background
The Geo Maps feature of PRTG allows you to visualize geographical information about your monitored objects (probes, groups, devices). The icons that show the current status color of these objects appear on the defined location on a geographical map background. If you do not see the geographical map background but only the icons of the monitoring objects, check the following:
Geographical maps and proxy servers
If you use a proxy server, make sure that you properly configured the proxy under Setup | System Administration | Core & Probes in the PRTG web interface. For details about proxy settings, see PRTG Manual: Core & Probes.
Geographical maps and DNS servers
Make sure that your DNS servers are correctly configured and successfully resolve fully qualified domain names (FQDN). For example, if there is an issue with the DNS server you configured on the PRTG core server system, you might also not be able to properly send the support bundle or email notifications from PRTG. Investigate DNS resolution in this case.
