For update notifications, which URLs does PRTG call in order to contact the Paessler web servers?

How automatic update notifications work

Auto-update is a powerful feature that helps you keep your PRTG installation easily up to date. With each new version, we provide new features and bug fixes.

Which domains does PRTG connect to?

To check if a new version is available, PRTG sends an HTTP request once every 24 hours (and once per restart) to updatecheck.paessler.com.

If the update check finds a new version, or if you go to Setup | Auto-Update | Status and click Check for Latest Update and Download, PRTG connects to autoupdate.paessler.com to check if the license key is entitled to a free update. If yes, it downloads the update from one of our download servers, usually download.paessler.com.

Can I use a proxy?

By default, PRTG tries to use a direct internet connection. If a proxy is mandatory in your network, log in to the PRTG web interface and configure your proxy settings under Setup | System Administration | Core & Probes (System & Website in previous versions).

Can I block this traffic?

You could block this traffic by adding entries to the local hosts file that point to a non-existent IP address. However, this disables the update notification and auto-update functionality.
