I'm getting an SNMPERR_AUTHENTICATION_FAILURE (SNMP error # -35) error in PRTG for a new Cisco Nexus 5672UP, even though it's configured the same as the old one and other devices with the same SNMPv3 credentials work fine. What could be the issue?

This error is most likely the result of a mismatch in your configuration. It could be that the password was not transferred or needs to be reset, or something similar. Often, the running configuration was not save on the flash and was overwritten by an out-of-date backup. We recommend that you enter the SNMP password and check your configuration values.

If you re-entered the configuration values and the issue still occurs, there are some other things you can try:

  1. You can use the Paessler SNMP Tester to try to debug your device in your network. This tool can help identify if there are issues with IP address restrictions, for example.
  2. You might also want to do a DEBUG SNMP or similar action on the Cisco device as well - there is a good chance you can find what the issue is there.
