Can PRTG update a sensor name when a Cisco switch interface description changes? Currently, rescanning creates a new sensor with the updated description, which may cause loss of historical data if the old sensor is deleted.
Based on the experience with Cisco's devices, these are the recommended settings/changes to have correct interface identification, naming and name updates when the interface is renamed:
- 1. Head to the SNMP Compatibility Options of the device in PRTG.
- 2. Disable the inheritance of the SNMP Compatibility group, then proceed with the following changes:

| Port Name Update | Automatic sensor name update if name changes in device |
| Port Identification | Use ifName |
- 3. After saving these settings, the new name template and port name update behavior will apply starting the following scan, but you're strongly advised to remove and re-deploy your SNMP Traffic sensors to also apply the new Port Identification setting.
