PRTG compatibility with PRTG OPC UA Server

The upcoming PRTG 25.3.110 stable release contains a change that affects the compatibility between Paessler PRTG and Paessler PRTG OPC UA Server. To prevent downtime, we plan to release PRTG OPC UA Server 1.4 concurrently with the next stable release of PRTG. 

To maintain compatibility, you must update to PRTG OPC UA Server 1.4 and PRTG 25.3.110 at the same time.

Why is this happening?

PRTG OPC UA Server relies on the PRTG API v2 to function. In the upcoming stable release of PRTG, we plan to introduce a change in the API v2 that affects the ability of PRTG OPC UA Server to receive data from PRTG. Therefore, we are also releasing an update for PRTG OPC UA Server along with PRTG 25.3.110 to maintain compatibility.

Note: This coordinated update is an exception to the usual process and only occurs now due to the nature of the upcoming API change. Normally, you can update PRTG and PRTG OPC UA Server independently from one another. 

How should I update?

Once the mentioned versions are both available, you must update the two components (PRTG and PRTG OPC UA Server) in a coordinated way to minimize the downtime of your PRTG OPC UA Server instance. Therefore, we recommend that you first update your PRTG core server to PRTG 25.3.110, followed immediately by the update to PRTG OPC UA Server 1.4. This ensures minimal interruption in monitoring.

What does this mean for future updates?

All versions later than PRTG OPC UA Server 1.3 will require as of PRTG 25.3.110.

What happens if I do not update either component?

As long as you do not update either PRTG or PRTG OPC UA Server to a newer version, they remain compatible. This means, if you run an earlier version of PRTG up to PRTG 25.3.110 and an earlier version of PRTG OPC UA Server up to PRTG OPC UA Server 1.3, your setup will not be affected.
