Alarm Insights
Alarm Insights is a new feature in PRTG that uses generative AI (Claude from Anthropic) to analyze your current alarms. It is available as an early access preview in the new PRTG user interface.
Alarm Insights looks at the alarms (sensors in the Down and Warning states) that are currently active in your PRTG installation. It traces your active alarms back to a small number of underlying causes, each with a plain-English explanation and suggested next steps. The goal is to help you cut through alarm noise faster than manual checks of individual messages would allow.
Early access
Alarm Insights is in early access, which means it is an opt-in preview available to a limited group of users before a wider rollout. During early access, we gradually roll the feature out among users who sign up. This is to ensure we keep the initial group small so we can provide adequate support. The aim is to collect feedback and improve Alarm Insights before its stable release.
Sign up for early access
- Open the new PRTG user interface.
- Navigate to the Alarm Insights page via the main menu bar.
- Click Sign up for early access.
- Complete the sign-up form that opens, and submit it.
- If you are within the initial group for rollout, you receive the necessary information via email: the AI Agent installer that is required for Alarm Insights to run, and setup instructions.
- Install the AI Agent to activate Alarm Insights for your PRTG instance.
Note: If sign-up interest exceeds current capacity, the Alarm Insights team places you on a waiting list. You receive an email that confirms your registration and gives you an estimate of the wait time.
Frequently asked questions
I signed up but have not received anything yet. Is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong. We roll out early access in batches. If you signed up after the initial group, you are on a waiting list, and you receive an email that confirms your registration and gives you an idea of the wait time.
Is there an extra cost for Alarm Insights?
No. Please review the Early Access Terms shown when you install the AI Agent. It covers all licensing and cost details for this feature.
Does Alarm Insights change anything in my PRTG setup?
No. In this phase, Alarm Insights only displays information. It does not change any settings or take any action in your installation.
Can I use Alarm Insights in an offline or air-gapped network?
No. The AI Agent needs internet access, since the analysis runs through a gateway Paessler operates. Installations without internet access cannot use Alarm Insights in this phase.
What happens if I reach my monthly usage limit?
Reply to the email you received when the Alarm Insights team granted you access. They reset your limit before the next month starts.
How do I opt out of Alarm Insights?
Uninstall the AI Agent like any other Windows program. PRTG continues to operate normally, and the Alarm Insights page returns to the early access sign-up option.
Will there be full documentation for Alarm Insights?
Yes. We will publish detailed documentation in the PRTG Manual once Alarm Insights moves beyond early access.
