Hi. Here at our HQ datacenter we have had PRTG running successfully for years, and we are now looking into how to best make use of PRTG for monitoring 50 branch sites.
The branch sites are connected to HQ via low bandwith (256Kbs) high latency (1000ms) satellite links. Each branch site is a separate stand alone environment with approximately 6 devices and 50 sensors to be monitored (Windows servers, VMware ESXi, Cisco switches, ..)
A PRTG monitoring dashboard should be accessible at the branch site also when the WAN communnicaton link is down
The solution should keep monitoring traffic on the WAN link to a minimum.
Are there any best practices for a scenario like this? Should we for example go for stand alone PRTG installations at each site, or would the use of remote probes be a better approach?

if you want to have centralized monitoring you should use remote probes.
But with that solution you would have no dashboard on the remote side if the WAN link is down, since dashboards are only available through the server.
But it is definitely the cheaper option, since probes are free.
