Currently we have a PRTG Cluster containing 1 Primary Node and 1 Secondary Node.

Now we want to Reinstall the Server hosting the Secondary Node.

What are the exact Steps to Migrate this Secondary Node to the new Server?

Dear Andreas,

we would recommend the following steps:

  • Shut down the current failover node
  • Install PRTG on the PC/Server for the new failover node and join the existing cluster
  • Once the new failover node has synced and fully received the configuration file, shut down the core service
  • copy the Monitoring Database-subfolder from PRTGs datafolder from the old to the new failover node
  • once this is finished, please delete the PRTG Graph Data Cache.dat and then restart the Core Server service
  • copy all registry settings from the old to the new failover-node, please see the How and where does PRTG store its data?-Article for details where the registry-keys are stored. best regards.

Hello,

So joining the Cluster with a Node containing the same Name as the old one is no Problem? I dont have to delete it before i "rejoin" the Cluster?

Dear Andreas, that should be no problem, as a cluster can have up to 5 nodes. It's only recommended to shut down the old failover node, as otherwise the new one might only start in freeware mode due to license reasons.
