We are presently utilizing PRTG 9.2.0.2176. We have several high bandwidth users that are roaming on and off the network due to the fact they utilize laptops.

We are wanting to utilize PRTG to notify us when bandwidth usage gets over a certain amount and we want to be able to look at our sensors to determine who it is by IP address/DNS name consuming the network.

What would be the method to do this? We have setup monitors on their machines with SNMP, but when they disconnect from the network we receive alarms on the bandwidth monitor for that device. We just need to monitor active laptops on the network.

Thanks ahead of time for your reply. Shawn

You can discern the bandwidth usage and the actual source for the same as outlined under How do I discern excessive bandwidth usage with PRTG? In order to avoid getting notifications when the notebooks disconnect we would suggest adding a Ping sensor for the same, making all other sensors dependant on this Ping sensor so that when the Ping sensor fails, all other sensors for the device are paused by dependency.
