Hi,
you can use the SNMP Tester. When downloaded fill in the needed information and then scan for uptime and / or available standard interfaces. If you get results your SNMP should be configured correctyl. Best regards

I am running the test as mentioned against a server which I know has snmp and snmp trap service enabled and running but the SNMP tester does not find the interface. Am I running the wrong SNMP version or ?

Hi,
what exact messages / error codes do you get from the SNMP Tester?
Have you checked your firewall?
Please note also, in Windows you have to set a caommunity explicitly in the service settings, otherwise the service is running but you won't be able run queries against it. Best regards
EDIT: You also may try, as you mentioned, different SNMP Version with the SNMP tester.
