I have appoximately 50 devices that I want to setup ping sensors for. Should I use PING 1, PING 2, PING 3, .... or can they just be setup as PING for all of the devices? Also, what happens if the names of the sensors are the same? Example would be PING 2 for the sensor on two different devices.

Dear Chris,
you can do that fully up to your own liking. Same Sensor names don't have any negative consequences. We just think the number in the sensor name helps in certain situations to discern between certain sensors.
best regards.
