We are currently experiencing an issue where we are being combared with alerts about the WMI tests on our mail server.

There is nothing wrong however the PRTG logs show the following message:

WMI request timed out. Probe's WMI system had to be stopped. Please pause or delete sensor and restart probe! (code: PE051)

It is our belief that we are getting a WMI overload and PRTG cannot handle the amount of sensor data coming into the server. Can anyone advise if...

a) this is indeed the case or is a known problem? b) what the most appropriate fix for such a problem would be? remove sensors? space the probing period out? network issues?

Thanks in advance.

Please upgrade to the current version pf you haven't done so already.

If the problem persists, please increase the scanning intervals of your WMI sensors. A good thing to get load off the WMI system is to distribute the WMI sensors over Remote Probes.

How many WMI sensors do you use? Generally it's very hard to recommend sensor counts / scanning intervals, as the various sensor types are very different in their costs. Scanning a WMI Eventlog sensor can take up to 100 times the time of an WMI Uptime sensor, for example.

Kind regards,
