How can I create a ping sensor that pings a specific (non standard) port

One of my techs has asked me this question. He wants to be able to setup a ping sensor that checks a specific port rather than whatever the default ping does. I have looked through the sensor options and can't find any way to specify a port on a ping sensor.

on a ping sensor no port can be selected. Why are you not using the port sensor?
