Hi I would like to log Interface Errors and Discards on all Interface of our Cisco-Nexus-Switches. This works fine if I configure it via SNMP-Traffic-Sensor of Interface -> Settings -> Additional Channels. Thanks to multi-edit, this even works for all Ports on a Switch at once.
However - on Nexus-Switches, the Interfaces are not a static thing: Depending to which virtual context a Port is assigned to, it will show up on this or another management instance. This works very well with PRTG's periodicaly Sensor-Auto-Discovery: Every night, our PRTG looks wether a Nexus-Management-Instance has new Ports, automatically adds them and starts to record the traffic-counters. Unfortunately, it only starts to record the traffic-counters, but not Interface Errors and Discards as well. So after some days, I've got some sensors with the Errors/Discards-Channels and some without.
Is there any way to ensure that newly added Traffic-Sensors automatically record the Errors- and Discard-Channels as well? eg by using a new Device-Template? Or an automated action after the Auto-Discovery?
Thanks in adavance Stefan Mueller
Dear Stefan,
this might work with an edited device template. By default PRTG doesn't store whether the additional channels on SNMP Sensors are enabled or not in a device template, but you could edit that into the template once you created one. The best way would be to check the PRTG Configuration File PRTG Configuration.dat for an existing sensor with enabled additional channels, and copy the part 'trafficmode'. This part would have to be pasted into the template under <createdata>.
Best Regards.
