Looking at the SharePoint process sensors for one of my Sharepoint web servers, I notice below sensor is down frequently

Sensor Sharepoint Process _Total

I would like to understand

  1. What is the _total process in relation to Sharepoint? What does it means if it is down?
  2. How I can troubleshoot this issue?
  3. Is there any fix?

Thanks Deepak Jindal

Hi Team, I have already gone-through that link but it didn't give me much insight details. So it would be great if you can share more in-depth details.

Hello Deepak,

Regarding 1, as stated in the other thread: In WMI there is a _Total field generated for the IIS processes that will show information for the entire IIS process.

Regarding 2 & 3: Which error do you get in the sensor?

Kind regards,

Erhard

Hi Team, For 1: As per your definition of _Total, in our server it does not make sense that Sharepoint Process _Total is down but all other individual process are up and running. How this is possible?

For 2 and 3 : It just say Sharepoint Process _Total is down and No data. I am not able to get any logs for the same.

  1. Why is Sharepoint Process _Total is down on every 4-5 mins?
  2. How to get error information or detail logs?

Thanks Deepak

Hi Deepak,

I agree, makes no sense in my opinion either, but I couldn't find really anything anywhere else about this "_total" process, maybe Microsoft support could shed some light on this.

On this page you find the queries the sensor performs. When the sensor errors out or receives not data, try running those mentioned queries manually with our WMI Tester to see if it reports back data for "_total".

Kind regards,

Erhard
