Grettings

A client still use an old reliable PRTG 13.4 (32bits, Windows 2008) but the company needs to get rid off all old servers, aditionally the maintenance run off date time ago but he wants to keep his PRTG and asked us for a new license and maintenance to migrate the system.

Of course, I know there is a guide to migrate to a new machine, it even include the case of migrating from x86 to x64 but the first step is to update the source to the target version. The question is:

Is it possible to update an 13.4 to 18.<new> without risk of loss or damage of the data?

Hello Omar,

Please find here more details for updating from previous versions of PRTG to the latest ones.

Also please note that in 2016 some sensor types were removed from PRTG, please read here more about it.

Erhard

Hi Erhard,

Where may i find the 16.1.22 installer?

The customer has no active maintenance but wants to purchase one once he makes sure the update is viable. The plan is to update to 16.1 then purchase, run the autoupdate and migrate.

If you have a better plan in all ears ;-)

Thanks for the answer

Best regards,

Omar.

Well, we are close to the solution :) just 2 more doubts:

  • Will 16.1.21 install without failures in W2008? (i think so , but need a confirmation, sorry)
  • Will 18.4 .<last> install without failures in W2008?

Of course, 2008 will NOT be the last OS. Once updated PRTG wiil be migrate to a 2012 server

Hi Omar,

In case of 2008 it should be 2008R2 then (the same goes for Server 2012).

Kind regards,

Erhard
