Hi

I just need some clearification about SNMP traps and MIB files.

1) MIB for SNMP traps has to be copied to /MIB directory NOT via the MIB Importer v3?

2) In a distributed deployment, the MIB files only have to exists on the primary server?

3) After copying the MIB files, does the primary server and the probe, both have to be restarted?

Any help is appreciated :)

Best regards,

Michael

Dear Michael,

let us jump right into the questions.

1) Indeed, a MIB for trap translation must not been imported, just copied.

2) Only the PRTG core server needs the file, not remote probes, nor a failover (the sensor cannot be used on a cluster probe).

3) A server restart should not be required, as the MIB is accessed when the message table is created.

Great news :D Then I'm almost there then. New MIB files are sometimes, in MY or TXT format - does there have to happen a conversion of the files, or just rename the file extension.

Dear Michael,

these file extensions are detected as well. (PRTG looks for .mib, .my and .txt.)
