Hello. Ive got a silly question. Ive taken up PRTG to monitor the network at my workplace, in order for us to discover possible bottlenecks, and to generally have a keen eye on it.

Ive succesfully added our switches/DC/Coreswitches to PRTG. I've allowed it to run for 2 days straight to get some actual data that i can view. Here i discover that the 2 core switches are both running at 70-90% in the Traffic Index(%) on the graphs. This is when i look directly on the COsw. If i look at the individual sensors on the switch i notice they are hardly being used (as far as i can tell)

My question therefore is: Am i looking at this correctly? What does it mean when it says my 2 core switches are running at a whopping 70-90% Traffic. Is this even the optimal way for me to check how our bandwith is actually being used?

Cheers

Dear Bigum

Please detail what kind of information you extracting from PRTG. PRTG usually shows traffic as bandwidth using a byte-related unit over time.

If you manually enter the maximum speed, you can configure the sensor to show a percentage instead. PRTG creates one traffic sensor for each interface (which ever had any traffic so far.) Are you comparing a single interface with the total traffic?
