problem with angle brackets in cisco device port-descriptions

hi everyone, i have an issue with angle brackets "<>" in the port-descriptions of our cisco devices. if i put them in the port descripiton of an interface, i get the following error: "Could not identify port number".

Did anyone have the same issue and how can i fix this problem?
