We need to modify PRTG’s useragent in an attempt to monitor a website performing agent detection.

From PRTG 7’s history: HTTP sensors' user agent can be defined by the user (Registry Key: LocalMachine\software\Paessler\PRTG Network Monitor\V7\Server\useragent)

Current Registry Key: LocalMachine\software\Paessler\PRTG Network Monitor\V8\Server\useragent (currently doesn’t exist) Suggested User agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0)

After reading the history for version 7 and 8, I have no reason to believe that adding this useragent key will not give us the result we expect; however, can Paessler confirm that this is what we need to do in version 8 before executing the change?

Thanks to Paessler for being so prompt & helpful here on the KB.

Hello,

Yes, the useragent registry key will work with the V8. If your registry settings are stored in the V8 path add the value there (upgraded installations might still use the V7 path).

Best Regards.

As of PRTG version 9 the User Agent string for the HTTP Advanced sensor can now be changed directly in the sensor's settings.
