Hello, We have an SQL cluster device added to PRTG, within this device we have added several WMI sensors. In this case we have 6 SQL services that are being monitored via WMI for over a year, about a week ago, 4 of those sensors went into down state and have not been able to come back to up state after they were paused. We have tried pausing and resuming, and also re-adding the sensors, after they are resumed it takes several minutes to read into the error state even when the services are running fine in the actual cluster computer. Also when adding sensors to PRTG, the services show as running but the sensor is always in the Unknown then goes to error after several minutes.

Any ideas or suggestions about this behavior?

thank you very much for your support ticket. May I ask, which exact version of PRTG are you running? Which exact error do the sensors show? Can you upload a screenshot showing the "Overview" and one screenshot showing the "Settings"-Tab of such a sensor?
Also, are you monitoring the cluster nodes directly each one?

Sure, we are currently running PRTG version 14.2.10.2014. Where do you want me to upload the screenshots for this error?, please advise on that. And yes, we are monitoring the nodes directly for both SQL servers in the cluster, but since one is active and other passive.

Hi Torsten, After reading your reply, I went and un-pause one of the sensors giving me the error (to capture screenshot) and encountered something else. A few more sensors were in unknown state for a few minutes, then they went into warning with the same error as the SQL sensors we talked about before. "WMI request timed out unrecoverably. If the problem persists with this sensor consider pausing or deleting it"

The new sensors showing the warning are not even from the same devices, which means there were different servers throwing this error. Do we know if the version of PRTG that we are running has a bug regarding this matter?, would it be better and quicker to resolve this issue if we open a ticket?.

With the WMI Requests hanging here, please try restarting the PRTG Probe Service. If that does not help, please try restarting the target machines.

Thanks, this has been fixed, the issue was with WMI on the target machine on SQL. After fixing this and un-pausing sensors they came back up. The others which were showing as warning cleared themselves after sometime.
