Does anyone have experience with a suitable sms hardware appliance which is competable with PRTG? We are currently using a foxbox and are not satisfied with it.

Does it NEED to be a piece of hardware? Have you looked into any software products out there? I believe PRTG monitors running services and processes too. I don't have much experience with SMS unfortunately, but I know there is software out there that does it just fine.

thanks for your reply, yes I did look into the software solutions, however they all need the 'internet' and are not very reliable for SMS, and most of the time not fast enough sending it. That is why we are looking for the hardware solution :)

Hi,
you might as well have a look at this KB article and Blog post where we tested some GSM modems.

You can also take a look at SMSEagle.

It's a hardware sms gateway. It sends sms messages directly to GSM network, so you're independent from any internet connection.

This device is compatible with PRTG. They have an installation manual for PRTG sms notifications on their website: http://www.smseagle.eu/plugins.php#prtg

You can look at sendQuick (http://www.talariax.com) as it is an appliance with a built-in SMTP server and can accept both syslog and SNMP Traps as well. It has live cases integrating to PRTG.
