Testing out Hyper-V 2012 and added a hyper-v vm sensor - it detected the 1 vm I have on the 1 host but returns "The specified class is not valid".
Is this a 2012 thing? Works fine with my 2008r2 Hyper-V servers.

We know about the problems with Hyper-V on Windows Server 2012 and WMI. We do have good news, you will need a little patience though.
With the next release, we're going to introduce a new feature. We will improve some wmi sensors with a hybrid mode. This means, they will not only be able to collect their data with WMI, but they will also be able to use performance counters. With this release, only the "Hyper-V Virtual Storage Device" will get this hybrid mode, but the other Hyper-V sensors will hopefully get the hybrid mode in the release after that. The performance counters for Hyper-V still do work with Hyper-V 2012.
If our software tests are successful and everything works as planned, there might be a new preview version next week, that already contains the new hyper-v sensors. At the moment they are only available in our canary channel. Feel free, to test them there, but we highly recommend not to use the canary version for your production system. You can find more information about our release channel in our blog post.
We're also going to release 2 new sensors. They need a "Service Center Virtual Machine Manager" running in your environment. It will then be able to monitor every VM or Host attached to your SCVMM even if the VM is moved from one host to another.
