I'd like to know if there is a measurable performance impact on servers monitored with WMI sensors by PRTG. I doubt there's much of an impact when using sensors like SNMP, SMB free space and so on - but WMI?
At least on the probe WMI sensors seem to produce a load significant enough for you to suggest to limit the amout of WMI sensors on each probe. So the logical question would be to ask what happens on / with the serers that are being monitored.
Is there a difference between Server 2003 and 2008 R2 on the "receiving end"?

The impact on the general performance is not significantly higher then with other sensors. The only problem is, that the amount of wmi requests, that can be performed is limited by the OS. It is not a hard limit, but it is a really tight bottleneck.
