Would like to be able to monitor a Kafka environment without having to hack together the unsupported JMX probe or run a series of load intensive shell scripts.

Can you please open a feature request and describe what you would like to monitor exactly. If there is multiple users in the same case, then the feature will be added in our backlog.

I think this is a good reference but this might be a bigger lift by bringing in native JMX monitoring. Nagios and Zabbix seem to have it for Kafka.
