Hello,

Trying to setup notifications and having losts of issues. Installed Wireshark and it appears to not even try to connect Exchange 2013. Where are the logs held? Do they need to be turned on somewhere?

Hello,

Thank you for your KB-post.

In order to configure email alerts, for the first setup it is necessary to adjust several settings:

  • "Setup -> Account Settings -> Notification Templates"

This defines the kind of message and its content (in this case email).

  • "Setup -> System Administration -> Notification Delivery"

This tells PRTG how to send messages (email options, SMTP delivery).

  • "Setup -> Account Settings -> Notification Contact"

This defines where to send notifications (to which email address).

  • monitored object (Sensor/Device/Group) -> Notification Triggers -> Object Triggers

This provokes the defined notifications.

For detailed information about notifications, please also have a look at our manual: http://www.paessler.com/manuals/prtg/notifications_settings.htm

If you have already set the email notifications in this way, but they are still failing, please perform the following:

- Open the page "Setup -> Account Settings -> Notification Templates" and there please find the notification that you set, but that fails.

- Mark that notification, and then click on the bell icon to test that notification.

- Then you should receive a test email. If the test notification failed, please click on "Logs -> System Events -> Notifications" and there search for a corresponding log entry.

- If those logs do not give enough details, then you can activate notification delivery logging: https://helpdesk.paessler.com/en/support/solutions/articles/76000041683-how-can-i-enable-notification-delivery-logging

Thankyou for the response. I managed to source the issue and test button now sends the mail to exchange server. Issue was I needed to add the prtg server.exe as an exception in McAfee VirusEnterprise.

Access Protection ->antivirus standard protection-> prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail

I found in the AccessProtection log McAfee was blocking the process

Blocked by port blocking rule C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\PRTG NETWORK MONITOR\64 BIT\PRTG SERVER.EXE Anti-virus Standard Protection:Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail
