We have tested some IP SLA Sensors. But given following scenario:
We setup a sensor that sends a UDP echo 10x/second to a destination. PRTG gets his values after 10sec (earliest you can configure PRTG to do). So for each read, there should be 100 values that need to be examined. So if 2 of these 100 packets failed (time out) and the 98 others were successful, what is PRTG displaying for this one read? The sensor is not down, because some packets did arrive, the sensor shouldnt be up either, because some packets did not. What is the behaviour of PRTG in such a case?
I have read the manual at: https://www.paessler.com/manuals/prtg/cisco_ip_sla_sensor and it didnt answer my question. It just says: "Packet Loss values are summarized"
Hi there,
Within the standard configuration of the sensor, there are no limits configured for the channel "Packets Lost" as this is pretty specific for each network.
You can set these limits your self to your liking to define when the sensor switches into down or warning state. Please find more information about limits here.
