Hello, I would like to monitor a couple of Linux servers. They are hosted in a public cloud and aren't reachable directly from outside. Instead, all access must go through a jump host / bastion host.

[ PRTG ] => Internet => [ bastion host ] => [ destination Linux server ]

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any option to configure a SSH gateway with PRTG so I have no idea how I could achieve this. Is there any (easy) way to monitor my Linux servers without allowing direct access from the internet?

Regards, Leon

Hello Leon,

Thank you for your message.

Regarding what you would like to achieve, there is indeed no options for bastion server I'm afraid. However, you have some options here:

  1. Install a remote probe (on Windows server)
  2. Install a Python probe (with limited sensors)
  3. Use a VPN tunnel (if possible)

The remote probe would allow you to use the native sensors of PRTG on your devices as well as custom ones. Otherwise, the Python probe can be installed on a Linux server there however its offers limited sensors as this is not a PRTG remote probe.

You can also monitor the devices (with your PRTG server) via a VPN tunnel if you have the possibility to have one between your network and the servers in the cloud.

Regards.
