Hi all,
I am new here, just trying to understand PRTG. I have 10y experience with nagios / centreon monitoring systems, so I am looking for the similar functionality also here.. Not sure if this is good way how to learn PRTG ;)
I understand probes, sensors,.. But cannot find "event handlers". In Nagios this is used to "auto-correct" the issue. Not sure if PRTG has this ability ?
Imagine situation, Apache httpd stopped responding @ tcp 80, sensor is down. Now I would like to use monitoring system to fire some action and restart the service before it raises a notification to me. So at first try to fix, if not solved send notification.
Is it possible to do something similar in PRTG ?
Many thanks !
Hello,
Thank you for your message.
Regarding your question, I think you are looking for the Notification Triggers in PRTG, which allow you to define actions based on the status of the sensors.
You will find information about PRTG Notifications as well as the different actions you can use in the following manual. We also have a dedicated page which provides the steps to set up notifications, as well as a Youtube video which covers the points above: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUsyEpPP8S4
Then, you can absolutely configure a notification trigger to execute a script to restart a service. Here is a KB article about this matter for Windows devices: https://helpdesk.paessler.com/en/support/solutions/articles/760000635110713-can-i-automatically-restart-a-windows-service-with-prtg
We also have a similar KB article for Linux systems: https://helpdesk.paessler.com/en/support/solutions/articles/70771-how-can-i-monitor-and-automatically-restart-a-service-on-a-linux-host
If you have further questions, let us know. Kind regards.
