We currently have ping as the master sensor for all devices, but would like to implement a structure so if a router is offline, all devices underneath are also paused (switches, APs, servers).

We have tried setting the dependancy for devices as ping on the router, but if a switch goes down we now get an alert for every sensor rather than just ping

Is there a way to configure the system in the following way:

The router is the dependancy for any devices connected to it Ping is still the master sensor for each device, without having to manually modify every sensor

Is that the only way to do it? Change every sensor to be dependant on ping? We have well over 1000 devices with many having 60+ sensors so that isn't ideal

Dear GlennWall,

an option would be to instead change the ping sensors to be "Master object for parent". That sets all other sensors on the same device to be dependent on that ping sensor. This reduced the number of objects to be changed, as only ping sensors have to be edited now.

Many options can be changed in bulk via multi-edit, however dependencies can only be changed for each object individually.

We tried that. The ping sensors were originally the "Master object for parent", but you can't then set the underlying device to have a dependancy of the sites router without losing the settings to the ping sensor

Dear GlennWall,

if the question is about multi-dependencies, this is not possible. A object can be depended on exactly one other object.

But you could put those devices into a device group, having the devices dependent on their ping, and the group on the ping of a router.
