Our local probe is under huge load because of the many devices and sensors. We decided to use a remote probe, but i have a question related to that. Does a remote probe take away the load of the local probe if you split the devices? What happens when one server with probe shuts down?

If your Local Probe has a high load, then a Remote Probe is the correct solution. If you have installed the Remote Probe, you can move the devices via drag & drop to the new Remote Probe. To do this, you need to switch to the "Management" tab of the PRTG Web Interface.
If the server where the Remote Probe is running shits down, then the monitoring for all Sensors at this Remote Probe stops. If only the connection to the Core Server fails, then the Probe will cache 200MB of monitoring results.
