Hello,
we monitor each ESXi and its machines separately. This way, in case a vcenter fails, monitoring is not impacted at all. Sadly, this way, PRTG is not aware of the other cluster nodes and therefore we get alerts whenever automated migration occurs, which is not a good situation with "fully automatedL automation level.
In a desired state, PRTG should avoid a single point of failure (full dependency on a vcenter) and be able to combine data from all the ESXis of the cluster to be able to monitor properly and alert based on knowing a full picture.
Hello,
At this time, we recommend you monitor all VMs and Datastores through the vCenter appliance. This mitigates the issue you mention. We understand it's a single point of failure, but due to how VMWare handles the ESX hosts and their knowledge of VMs. If you would like to recommend a feature request for a different way PRTG can handle this, please follow the following link.
