User Story

We use naming conventions for our sensors to ensure that proper referencing to our internal knowledgebase systems is easily possible. However because PRTG has set default names for sensors, every time a new sensor is created it later as to be manually renamed.

It would be great if the default names for sensor types could be implemented. Maybe like a mapping table or something like that. This would greatly streamline our workflows and ensure that the sensors are valid and always the same throughout the company.

Device templates do not solve this issue since it is common that new sensors get added to existing devices 'on the fly' - and all users know how to create sensors, not all users are able to properly use templates. Also "batch renaming" does not really solve this in a pleasing manner.

Acceptance criteria

  • Criterion #1 - Names of builtin sensors should be able to be set to a custom value that is persistent throughout PRTG updates
