I'm trying to embed a external website into a map but. To do so I add a custom html code element on the map and in 'external link' I enter the URL of the page. But it doen't load.

Hello,
the "external link" field can only be used to configure a clickable link. It will not display your website. Have you tried using the custom HTML before and after fields instead? This article might help as well: https://helpdesk.paessler.com/en/support/solutions/articles/760000423422
