Hi,
We have two groups, one type of Users, the other Administrators. Both are set to read/write user type. Administrators have write to all objects, and Users have read. The Administrators group is set to Administrative Rights.
Accounts member of Users can't pause objects. Is this an Administrative Right? If so, is there a way to give normal users pause rights? (We dont want them to add/alter devices, but may put them in maintenance.
Kind Regards, Bastiaan

Hi, thank you for your anwser. Then I would like to submit this as an feature request. To me its akward that you need write permissession, a big right to only be able to pause. Our servicedesk employees need to only pause objects when they are going to service an device. Not complete changeable right to the object.

Dear bvanhaastrecht
Please don't expect an implementation of that user type in the foreseeable future. We collect user feedback and discuss it on a regular basis, but every request which would require a new option in the user interface has a hard time to get accepted.
Of course we will still add options when necessary, however having a clear interface is a strength of PRTG, even if it means that some use cases are not covered by the software.

You indicate that to pause one or more sensors you need WRITE permissions. As of version 18.2.41 the only way I can get the pause function to work is as an administrator. I'm really missing a way for ordinary users to be able to use that feature WITHOUT being an administrator. Its a MUST HAVE feature as many of our users are dealing with servers and need to be able to pause a sensor or group due to maintenance work. Have I overlooked something?

Dear Martin,
write permission is sufficient. Please check that you granted write access for the according user group. This can be done at the object's setting tab, when you scroll down to the section "Access Rights". Please uncheck the inheritance selection in order to get to the option where you overwrite the access rights.
In addition, the user needs to be a write user, but a write user does not automatically has write access on objects, instead this has to be granted per-object (by default, the setting is inherited from the according parent object.)

Dear itc,
there is now a user-created feature request covering this topic. You can add your voice there. Those postings will be kept invisible for the public, but we see them. Please find more details here.

Adding to this because I was wondering if it needs actually admin permissions, as per https://www.paessler.com/manuals/prtg/user_access_rights? can change the monitoring configuration of PRTG
We have a user with write permissions on a probe device but the Pause action is not available down to sensor level.
Wanted to make sure before requesting a new case.

Hi Uwe,
Write users should be able to pause objects, yes. If you navigate to the sensor in questions, click on the Settings tab, what access rights does your Write user has there?
Kind regards,

Dear bvanhaastrecht
A read-only user can only get the additional right to acknowledge alarms. Pausing a sensor requires write access. If you set a user to have write access, he can of course do other write operations as well (for example, delete a sensor.)
We have no plans to implement a PRTG user-type like "read-only but with pause", I am sorry.
