Hi everyone,

I want to monitor CRC errors in all ports of my switches with a single sensor. I have searched but I couldn't find relevant solution. really I don't want to set so many sensors for monitoring my network devices. My question is, is there any solution for my request? If there is, please guide me to do that.

Best regard guys

Hello,

I understand that you would like to monitor CRC errors, correct?

Perhaps the SNMP RMON sensor might help you: https://www.paessler.com/manuals/prtg/snmp_rmon_sensor

Let me know if this does the trick for you.

Hello Miguel, thanks a lot for your answer. SNMP RMON runs a sensor for each port, this means, that I should set a sensor per each port.

But my question is that can I set one sensor for monitoring only CRC errors whole a device such as a core switch?

I have over 200 ports in my network that they most be monitored. But I wouldn't like to set over 200 sensor!!! Is there a solution that I could monitor with one custom sensor all CRC errors on a device. I have seen that some sensors work with OID. But after some tests I haven't succeed to get a correct result.

So many thanks again for your attention.

Best regards Hassan

Hi Hassan,

Thanks for your reply.

I do understand your point of 200 sensors for a single device; natively PRTG only has the RMON sensor.

As for the custom SNMP sensor yes, this is really vendor specific. Would be good to check with the device vendor to see what is the exact OID you should be using for this and then you can set up a SNMP custom sensor for this purpose.

Here's some useful information about this: - SNMP Custom sensor: https://www.paessler.com/manuals/prtg/snmp_custom_sensor - https://helpdesk.paessler.com/en/support/solutions/articles/76000041710-how-do-i-find-out-which-oid-i-need-for-an-snmp-custom-sensor

Thanks again Miguel, I will contact with hp and ask them my question.

But I think, there is a package hat contained the crc error information. I think when I can find this package, probably I will find the CRC errors between information that this package released.

Have you any Idea about this?

Hi Hassan,

Thanks for your reply.

This is really vendor specific but as you mentioned you are using HP I have found the following thread from them. https://community.hpe.com/t5/IMC/IMC-monitor-uplink-interface/td-p/7057515#.Yl7ts4vMKUk

Hope this helps.
