Currently we have a PRTG Server running a remote probe that we wish to decommission, and move to another server.
However, we wish to retain all of the sensors on the current remote probe. We have accomplished this multiple times before using this guide:
In this instance however, there are a large amount of devices with SNMP sensors; the problem being that we will need to redirect the "scope" of these SNMP settings to point at the new probe servers IP (Changing the new server's IP to match the old one is not an option in this instance).
My question is; If I change the GID on the new server, and make no changes to the old server - will both probes be able to run simultaneously (and both report back to the core server, thus preserving the SNMP sensors workable state) until the decommission of the old server is complete and the SNMP credentials have been updated?

thank you for your KB-Post.
This is not possible and definitively not advised. PRTG will not allow two probes with the same GID connect simultaneously. Essentially, this will not duplicate the remote probes in the PRTG interface (since the GID is the same) and all that will happen is that whenever the second connection arrives on the Core Server, PRTG assumes the probe is re-connecting and drops the first connection, so one probe would keep disconnecting the other as it re-connects.
Please keep in mind that while you can't clone the probe object itself, everything below it can be cloned to a new remote probe and will keep all settings (except the settings it inherited from the "probe" level).
