I can't completely figure out how to configure SNMP traps on PRTG and have a few questions. I get the traps into PRTG (from a Cisco 2960X switch), however:

  • 1. The OID is shown and not the human readable text. The OID in question can be translated by the Cisco PORT-SECURITY MIB, and I have installed that file in the /MIB directory on the PRTG server. I have also converted the file to OIDLIB and installed that in /snmplibs, although I understand it is not needed for this particular problem. The probe is restarted, and still I only see OID values. What have I missed?
  • 2. Is there any way to stop PRTG translate the first bit of OIDs? I'd rather see 1.3.6.1..... than CISCO-SMI::ciscoMgmt.362.1.2.......
  • 3. I tried to get the sensor to go red for a specific problem I have. The sensor logs CISCO-SMI::ciscoMgmt.362.1.2.1.1.1.10125.2=3, meaning a multicast storm port security violation. I want that to trigger an error state for the sensor. So in the error filter for the sensor I put bindings[CISCO-SMI::ciscoMgmt.362.1.2.1.1.1.10125.2,3], and I also tried the 1.3.6.1-version of the OID, but it does not trigger an error state.

2. Unfortunately, there is no possibility to do this.

3. Please note, that the Sensor counts the messages per second in one interval. That means the Sensor switches for your Error Trap only for one interval to "red".
