Hey,

is there a way how to automatically relocate migrated virtual machines?

If we move a VM to another host or datastore the VMware Virtual Machine (SOAP) sensor of the VM turns into error state. After this we need to delete the sensor and add the vm via the vm sensor manually.

Hello,

thank you for the KB-Post. The key for monitoring virtual machines with Vmotion is to add the Virtual Center Server as a device in PRTG, and then add the sensors for the virtual machines to this one (since the ESX(i)-Hosts simply cannot tell the sensor any information about VMs on other hosts). So we recommend to monitor the VMs via the vCenter-Server (as a device in PRTG), but the ESX(i)-Hosts directly as devices in PRTG. We have seen cases where the vCenter-Server cached wrong hardware status information from ESX(i)-Hosts. Monitoring the ESX(i)-Hosts directly as devices in PRTG will avoid this. Also it helps a bit with load balancing of the SOAP-Requests.

best regards.
