I downloaded and installed the trial version of PRTC Network Monitor. I am looking for a Real-time Bandwidth monitor to replace Solar Winds Real-time bandwidth monitor. Does PRTC Bandwidth monitor have that capability?

Hello johnsco

Thank you very much for your interest in PRTG Network Monitor. PRTG offers 4 different approaches for bandwidth monitoring. Please find a comparison between these approaches here:

The easiest way to monitor your bandwidth is using the SNMP Traffic Sensor, which allows you to monitor the incoming, outgoing and total traffic on a port. The following video tutorial explains how you can do that:

In any case please note that every scan will cause an outgoing query to the target device. For most sensors types it will require a TCP connection which needs to be established with the target host, the results need to be received and than stored in the database. Then, the measurements need to be processed to see if any thresholds were exceeded.
This does not work within a second, therefore, we only support intervals of 10 seconds and above.

Most manufacturers do not update the interface counters in very low intervals. Therefore, one minute intervals will be sufficient since these sensors will calculate the delta to the last measured value.

Best regards,
Sebastian
