Does monitoring of network performance cause noteworthy load by itself?

We would like to check the networt performance of the internet connection and internal network of a remote site. Does using PRTG for monitoring Ping, bandwidth etc. cause noteworthy load by itself, or is it negligible?

It's pretty negligible, if you don't use 1s intervals :)
