I’m wondering if it is possible in PRTG network monitor, to get notifications based on "unexpected behavior"? Not a trigger on a absolute number (volume or threshold), but depending on data from the past. When a sensor is steady increasing or decreasing in time, I want to know when the sensor data is deviating from its ‘line’. A change of angle of the graphic line.

Example: Free bytes of a disk are decreasing evenly but suddenly there is a change. Of course this could be made with a threshold trigger but the value must be adjusted for each case.

Is such an "unexpected behavior" notification already a part of PRTG?

Dear Niko,

Thank you very much for your KB-Post.

The only way to do this is to use a state trigger for unusual to trigger your notification. For details about PRTGs unusual state, please refer to:

To define what exactly is "unusual" (for your system), please navigate to Setup >> System Administration >> Monitoring >> UNUSUAL DETECTION and set the conditions for this state.

Kindly note, that this settings will apply to all sensors. The only way to exclude a group/device from this is to deactivate the unusual-detection in the settings of that group/device under ADVANCED NETWORK ANALYSIS >> Unusual Detection.

Best regards,
Sven
