Constraining Numbers and Allowed Types of Sensors
In PRTG are now several options available which are especially useful for Managed Service Providers (MSP):
Limiting Number of Sensors
It is possible to limit the number of sensors to be added to a group in the device tree. For this concern, you as administrator can use the Number of Sensors Limitation option in the settings of a group in the device tree. Choose between an unlimited number of sensors, or choose Limit number of sensors in this group. This setting is valid for all subgroups of this group in the tree. If you set up a limitation, enter the intended number of sensors in the field Maximum Number of Sensors. Sensors exceeding this number will be paused. For details, please see PRTG Manual: Group Settings.
Choose Edit | Settings... in the context menu of a group to set up a limitation:
Limiting Allowed Sensor Types
Furthermore, you can define the types of sensors users are allowed to create. Regarding this, use the setting Users May Create These Sensor Types for a specific user group in the system administration. Check the boxes for the sensor types the members of this group will be able to add to PRTG. For details, please refer to PRTG Manual: System Administration—User Groups.
Choose Setup | System Administration | User Groups, add a new user group, and define which sensor types the group members may create:

Using the SensorCount sensor and setting limits in the channel tab, you can get a notification when the number of sensors exceeds the limit that you set.
Use the -r= parameter to provide the deviceID of your probe and supply the complete filter list to count all sensors
