I have an FRITZ!Box 6360 from Kabel Deutschland and since yesterday the Paessler FRITZ!Box Internet Sensor stopped working with the error

"The remote server returned an error. (401) Invalid Action"

Yesterday there was an update of the FRTIZ!Box.

Have testet and searched for solutions but didn't find any, so I question here. Did someone have an solution for this?

Hi, we see the same here on a Fritzbox from Kabel Deutschland, too. Looks like the traffic monitoring interface, that PRTG uses to monitor the Fritzbox traffic, was disabled or changed by the update. We will need to investigate in the next days.

Hi,

obviously Kabel Deutschland enforced a security-setting in their update. Please can you check the setting at 'Heimnetz' -> 'Netzwerk' -> Tab 'Netzwerkeinstellungen' -> Area 'Heimnetzfreigaben' -> 'Statusinformationen über UPnP übertragen'.
It is necessary to have this setting enabled to be able to retrieve traffic-information from the Fritz!Box.

Just to add some additional input here: I am having the same issue on a vanilla 7490 device (no kabel deutschland branding or whatsoever) since I updated to FRITZ!OS 06.05. UPnP Status Update was and still is turned on. Appears to be a general and device independent FRITZ!OS 06.05. Issue to me.

Any hints on a snmp debug tool I can use to test if the box is actually providing SMNP updates at all so I can then throw the whole mess at AVM if it doesn't? :)

The latest updates for Fritzboxes from AVM haven broken PRTG's FritzBox traffic sensor which uses UPnP. We have confirmed this problem on

  • Fritzbox 7490 VDSL with OS 6.05 (worked fine until version 6.03)
  • Fritzbox 6360 Cable with OS 6.04 (worked fine until version 6.0)

We do not have information on what AVM has changed and why. And also we do not know if AVM has actually removed the feature altogether.

As a result we can not say when or whether we will be able to solve this.

There is an updated version of the AVM FRITZ!Box WAN Interface Sensor available as of version 14.4.12.3331/3332 (deprecated as of PRTG version 16.1.23). See stable release notes: https://www.paessler.com/prtg/history/stable

The updated version requires login credentials to your Fritz!Box and can show

  • Outgoing Calls
  • Outgoing Connection Time
  • Traffic in
  • Traffic out

There isn't a direct download for the canary version, what you would want to do is go to your Auto-Update settings in PRTG and change the channel from stable to canary then download and update your PRTG installation. Make sure that this PRTG installation is not in your production environment since it is usually buggy!

Gosh, this is brilliant, thanks very much. I've got one last question (sorry to be such a bother), I have installed the Canary version, and connected to the Fritz.box sensor, but where do I enter the login credentials for the fritz.box? I've looked everywhere.

Oh, this is the one task of PRTG, to monitor the traffic on the Fritzbox, so the Canary version should do until this feature enters the normal version.

If anyone has any tips on where to place the user/password credentials on the Canary version of the AVM FRITZ!Box WAN Interface Sensor. I've been reading the current manual (https://www.paessler.com/manuals/prtg/avm_fritzbox_wan_interface_sensor) but it doesn't cover anything about a password/user setting.

Do I do this at the device level? And if so, which setting?

In the current Canary version, please add the sensor anew to the Fritz!Box device. If you do so, there is a new setting on sensor level where you can enter the Fritz!Box credentials.
