We have several text files ; ideally I need to check the contents and raise alerts if I need.
I know PRTG monitors windows event logs ; is there any way to monitor a text file ?

While the Logfile Reader Custom Sensor seems not available anymore, please try using our own File Content Sensor to achieve your goal. It should have a very similar functionality.
