Google authentication with PRTG
Previously, you could use your traditional Google Account email (Gmail) and password to configure PRTG authentication settings for email notifications and various sensors. Beginning in 2024, Google ended support for Less Secure Apps (LSA) to increase security and minimize potential risks to your Google Account.
For more information about the changes, see the Google Workspace Update feed.
As a result of these changes, PRTG no longer supports Google authentication with a password. Instead, users now must configure any Gmail credentials with an app password.
What is an app password?
An app password is a 16-digit passcode that you can use in place of your traditional password to grant a third-party access to your Google Account.
You can create new app passwords as necessary. For PRTG, you can reuse the same app password for any sensor or notification setting that you want to authenticate with your Google Account.
For the most up-to-date information on how to create an app password with your Google Account, see the Google Help Center: Sign in with app passwords.
How is PRTG affected?

The following sensors are affected:
- IMAP sensor

- SMTP&POP3 Round Trip sensor
