Hello all, I am just getting started with PRTG and want to add many Cisco access layer switches all with the same sensors. I want system health (CPU, Temp, PS, etc) and up-links to distribution which are always the same for the switches. When I do an auto-discovery I get all of the interfaces which I dont care about. I just want the things I want. Is there a template I need to use or a way to make a custom template that I can apply when adding my hundreds of switches to PRTG? I saw that there a some sensors I cannot remove from the scan so how about a manual add with some sort of sensor template for the auto-discovery group? Thoughts? Thanks

Hello,
thank you for your interest and post.

Please check the following, which refers to a very similar situation and explains how the default discovery of interfaces happens:

  • Network adapter template
While there's no 'official' solution to what you want to achieve, the following options are available:
  1. Use the Group Settings > SNMP Compatibility Options to define a Start Interface Index and End Interface Index, this allows you to limit the auto-discovery to locate interfaces within that index range. You can use our SNMP Tester to walk 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.2 1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.1 and find out the indexes of your interfaces. Please note that the depending on the setup/model the indexes may not be equal across all devices.
  2. Check the alternative Proposed Here. While it is not officially supported it will allow you to customize your template to only add sensors for interfaces with specific names. This comes with no further support and will not work in older PRTG Versions.
